    That’s not a house!…It is a man’s face!!…It is not even a portrait of Monsieur LeCorbusier!!
Did you see the Rodchenko exhibition at the Tate? Really great!

  2. sharrock Says:

He acts like he is made of bricks. His American accent is lath and plaster..M. Corbusier didn’t make houses, he made machines for living in.

Missed the Rodchenko, sadly. I am sure it was grrrrreat.Don’t get around much anymore…

Have you heard C W Stoneking yet? Jungle Lullaby!

  3. Oscar Grillo Says:

You can cheat and change the name of this caricature (To me, the word caricature seem to diminish the wonderfulness of this drawing, sorry!) and say that is Steve McQueen before he died of cancer.

The other day I saw again Junior Bonner and was amazed by it. What was a minor Peckinpah on it’s day is now a monument to the west!

  4. sharrock Says:

Thank you for the compliment and the idea! Ha! We had the same puppet at Spitting Image for Ringo Starr and Yasser Arafat!

I was never one to watch westerns- but I will make an exception for Peckinpah.

  5. Oscar Grillo Says:

Ringo and Arafat!…Wonderful!!…And because their puppet of Diana was pretty dire I have to imagine that she was paired to Henry Cooper.

Westerns (the good ones) are the closest thing to Elizabethan Theatre ever happened to cinema. Junior Boner is about loss. Brilliant film. Wonderful acting from McQueen but specially by Robert Preston and Ida Lupino. It is so wonderfully edited that I would advise anybody who’d like to learn moviemaking to watch it several times.
The camera work of Lucien Ballard is a true delight. Often he picks images that look like Steinberg drawings of the West in the fifties. Don’t miss it if you can.

  6. sharrock Says:

The Diana puppet was redone on an almost weekly basis (I kid you not!) as the producer John Lloyd (he of QI and other stuff) was so besotted with her..strangely…! He kept making us straighten her nose…we were plastic surgeons not caricaturists!

I don’t know that film (is is Junior Bonner or Junior Boner? The latter is a slightly porn-sounding title!!) but I am a fan of Ida Lupino and Robert Preston (‘Oh we got trouble, right here in River City!’), so I will check it out! Thanks for recommending it..I shall wear my starched ruff while I view it 😉
